The realization of inclusive and sustainable economic growth built upon productive and decent work for all requires the development of diverse infrastructure types. Economic, social, and cultural rights, such as the right to education, health, or clean drinking water, demand institutions like schools, hospitals, water utilities, and a reliable power supply. Civil and political rights, such as freedom of speech, rely on the existence of democratic and rule-of-law institutions and security or IT infrastructure.

In a pivotal meeting held on November 15, 2023, the Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) of the FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure Label convened to discuss and shape the trajectory of the FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure® (FAST-Infra) Label. This biannual meeting is a cornerstone event, where the diverse group convenes to ensure the effectiveness and relevance of the FAST-Infra Label's initiatives. This committee plays a crucial role in steering the governance structure and fostering inclusivity within the label’s development. 

The landscape of sustainable infrastructure investment is evolving, and the FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure® (FAST-Infra) Label is emerging as a pivotal player in this transformation. In a recent panel discussion in Abu Dhabi for the World Association of PPP Units and Professionals (WAPPP) Forum. Prominent speakers in infrastructure and public-private partnerships (PPPs) met to discuss the Fast-Infra Label and its practicalities.

Inclusive infrastructure prioritizes equitable benefits across social, economic, and demographic spectrums. The FAST-Infra Label framework encourages stakeholder engagement, addresses displacement concerns, and emphasises positive social impacts that align with global sustainability goals. Inclusivity is gaining traction internationally as a key element of quality infrastructure as it contributes to long-term economic stability and resilience. The FAST-Infra Label framework hopes to highlight projects that not only mitigate harm but actively enhance community well-being, offering a blueprint for sustainable and socially responsible infrastructure development.

Sustainable infrastructure development safeguards biodiversity by mitigating habitat disruption and promoting eco-conscious design. The FAST-Infra Label addresses the multifaceted impacts of infrastructure and building a sustainable future that protects and enhances the natural environment.

There is an urgent need for resilience and adaptability in sustainable infrastructure investments as climate-induced disruptions become more frequent. Failing infrastructure can disrupt lives and economies, underlining the critical role of sustainable infrastructure development. The FAST-Infra Label framework offers a pathway to enhance resilience, reduce vulnerabilities, and ensure long-term adaptation, protecting both physical assets and the well-being of communities and industries. We need to build more resilient and adaptive infrastructure, that not only safeguards physical assets but also bolsters communities, industries, and interconnected systems.
